Week One: Theory, Driving Standards & Instruction Basics
At Starting Point Intensive, our intensive driving instructor training programme is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to progress towards becoming a successful Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
During the first week of training, you will develop a strong foundation in driving theory and hazard perception, learn to drive to a professional standard, and gain an understanding of effective instructional techniques. Our structured programme is designed to prepare you for the DVSA qualification process while developing the skills required to become a confident, competent, and professional driving instructor.

Week Two: Teaching Skills, Business Setup & Career Planning
In week two of our training programme, we focus on developing your instructional skills and preparing you for life as a qualified driving instructor. You will learn how to effectively teach learner drivers, manage your diary, and understand the different career options available to you once you qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
We pride ourselves on providing a relaxed, supportive learning environment throughout your training. There is no pressure to commit to any particular career path or join us after qualification. How it works
Ready to Become a Driving Instructor? We’ll Guide You Every Step of the Way
At Starting Point Intensive, we provide comprehensive training designed to prepare you for all three stages of the DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) qualification. Our experienced instructors work closely with you to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to progress through each part of the process successfully.
Part 1: Theory & Hazard Perception
The first stage of your journey is the DVSA theory and hazard perception test. We provide all the official study materials you need, along with expert guidance to help you fully understand the key concepts required to pass.
Our trainers support you throughout your preparation, ensuring you are confident and ready before booking your test.
Part 2: Advanced Driving Ability
Part 2 assesses your driving ability to a high professional standard. Through structured in-car training and personalised instruction, we help you refine your driving skills and develop a deep understanding of the Highway Code in practice.
Our training is tailored to your individual strengths and development needs, ensuring you are fully prepared to meet the DVSA standard with confidence.
Once you pass Part 2, you can progress to week two of our instructor training programme.
PDI Licence Stage
After completing week two of our course, you will meet the DVSA standard required to apply for your Potential Driving Instructor (PDI) licence, allowing you to begin teaching learner drivers under supervision. No additional tests are required to obtain this licence.
Part 3: Instructional Ability
Part 3 assesses your ability to teach. You will deliver a full lesson to one of your own pupils, demonstrating your ability to structure a lesson, teach at the correct level, correct driving faults, and adapt your approach to the learner’s needs.
The test lasts approximately one hour and focuses on your ability to deliver safe, effective, and adaptive instruction in real time.
